The construction of a water filtration plant at Nowgam village of Shangus Block of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district is currently underway. The new water filtration plant would be equipped with the latest purification technology and will provide clean drinking water to over 40 thousand people in four villages of Shangus block of Anantnag. According to Muhammad Ayoub, the assistant executive engineer Jal Shakti sub division Anantnag, "The work on this water filtration project will cost Rs 13 crore and 33 lakhs and within next month, the project will be completed and villagers will get clean drinking water." "Two main projects are underway here under two different programs. One filtration plant of one million gallons per day (MGD), SRA of two lakh gallons and allied structures are being built to give clean water to locals. This is a centrally sponsored scheme," he said. Muhammad Amin, a local said, "Last year in December, the work got stalled because of winter. But now we can drink clean water. The work is going on very well and we are thankful to the government for this filter plant. Four villages will get the benefit from this plant." Ghulam Nabi, another local said, "The quality of water was very bad and caused many diseases here. Now, we are getting clean water. The work is underway and now we will get to drink clean water. We thank the government for this plant."

CRPF jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas reached his hometown, Jammu on Friday. Rakeshwar was released last week after being abducted by Naxals in Chhattisgarh. The jawan was warmly welcomed by family, friends who put garlands around his neck. βI am very happy that I am meeting my family today. Our soldiers were brave enough to fight back the Naxals,β Rakeshwar said. Rakeshwar was abducted by Naxals during the Sukma-Bijapur encounter on April 3. Rakeshwar, who was part of security force's elite CoBRA unit, was released on April 8. 22 security personnel were killed and 31 others were injured in the fierce gunbattle.

A purported video from Sitalkuchi in Bengal's Cooch Behar is doing rounds on social media. Four villagers had died in the area in an altercation with CRPF jawans during the fourth phase of polling. Ruling TMC said video vindicates its position that there was no provocation for CRPF to fire. TMC MP and spokesperson Derek O'Brien went on to dub it as cold-blooded genocide. The video shows many locals gathered in a field, while some are seen wielding sticks. In the viral video, some central force jawans can also be seen. Soon firing can be heard, though it is not clear who fired the shot. Video shows a ruckus erupt in the area after the shots are fired. Earlier, Cooch Behar SP had said there was rumour that police opened fire. Debasish Dhar had added that the rumour led locals to come out in large numbers. The SP had said that this led the Central forces to open fire in self defence.

Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) under its Madadgaar project on Aprik 12 organised a 'Day out' picnic for the disabled youths at the famous Tulip garden in Srinagar. About 25 people were taken out for a day of fun, out of which 18 were disabled and 7 were helpers of them. CRPF also provided transport and refreshment to these disabled youths keeping in mind COVID norms. Such initiative was taken for disabled ones to give a change to the disabled usually living inside their homes and it was also an opportunity for them to interact with the normal people.
Security forces eliminated three terrorists during an encounter in the Kakapora area of Pulwama in Jammu & Kashmir. Forces had launched a search and cordon operation after they received information about presence of terrorists in the area. The operation turned into an encounter when the terrorists fired on the security forces. Several incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists. A house guard of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Anwar Khan was killed after his residence was attacked by terrorists on Thursday in Srinagar's Nowgam, Jammu and Kashmir police said. "One sentry Rameez Ahmad, critically injured in the attack succumbed to his injuries," said the police. This is not the first time that Khan has been attacked by terrorists. In 2018, terrorists had opened fire at the BJP leader at Khanmoh area in the Pulwama district. A police officer who was guarding him was injured in that attack. Watch the full video for more details.

The wildlife authorities in Jammu and Kashmir (JandK) have conducted a census of endangered Hangul (Kashmiri stag) found mainly in mountainous regions of the valley. The week-long population count was conducted in Dachigam National Park and other wildlife reserves including in Tral and Ganderbal. Dachigam National Park is the only sanctuary with viable population of Hangul. Around 270 people comprising researchers, scholars, students and other people belonging to different government and non-government organisations participated in the exercise under the supervision of wildlife and environmental experts from April 03-09.
