In his first political rally here since the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status last year, former chief minister Farooq Abdullah on Friday said it was the National Conference founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who told the people that "this is our way and not that side" while joining India in 1947. "We joined Mahatma Gandhi's India and not the BJP. India where all religions are equal and every citizen whether rich or poor gets equal treatment and the only red line is that we have to respect each other, irrespective of our religion and choice of food and drink," he said. Farooq was joined by son Omar Abdullah. Omar said, after the abrogation of Article 370, the people in Kashmir are more alienated than before.

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah slammed Centre over abrogation of article 370 while delivering a speech in Jammu. He said that after the abrogation of Article 370, the people are even more alienated than before rather assimilating into the rest of the country. "They said that by the abrogation, the people who were distraught with the administration of Hindustan would completely be assimilated into the rest of the country. But I'd like to say with conviction that by this these people are even more alienated than before," he said.
Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh on Thursday said his force is alive to various threats in the maritime domain including from China and is fully ready to deal with them. Addressing a press conference on the eve of Navy Day, he said the Navy has a standard operating procedure in case there is any infringement in the Indian Ocean region, in a veiled reference to the Chinese challenge. Referring to the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, the Navy chief said the Indian Navy's surveillance aircraft P-8I and Heron drones are deployed in the region. Vice Admiral AK Chawla, Flag Officer Commanding-in- Chief, Southern Naval Command said that Indian Navy played a crucial role in preventing any misadventure by the Chinese Navy in the Indian Ocean Region during the peak of the border standoff between the two countries. "I think the message has gone across to them very unambiguously that do not mess with us at sea and also at land for that matter," he said. The 'first blasting' for construction of Zojila Tunnel took place in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district on October 15. 14.15-km-long tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity between Srinagar, Dras, Kargil and Leh regions. Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari virtually initiated the project work. Minister of State (MoS) for Road Transport and Highways General Vijay Kumar Singh, MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh also attended the virtual event. Nitin Gadkari had reviewed this whole project in detail in February 2020.
