Decline in active case-load in some worst-affected states, but Delhi records highest jump in 24 hours
Friday, 30 October 2020 The trajectory of active case-load of Covid infections has been diverse across the country with some of the worst-affected states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala reporting a decline in numbers over 24 hours while Delhi remained a cause of concern with an additional 1574 active cases over the previous day.
With the arrest of five accused crime branch of Delhi police busted "Band Baaja Baarat" gang. Police team also apprehended two juvenile offenders, who were committing theft of bags containing 'shagun', jewellery and cash from wedding venues. Various incidents reported that gang was active in Delhi and NCR, committing theft at wedding venues during ceremonies. In This regard the team of Crime Branch started analyzing all the available video footage of the wedding ceremonies and deployed informers at various prominent wedding banquet halls, farmhouses. Efforts of the team bore fruit when a tip was received. On this police conducted a raid and arrested five accused and apprehended two juvenile offenders when they were leaving Delhi and moving to their village in MP. During interrogation, accused persons disclosed that they hailed from a small village - Gulkheri in district Rajgarh of MP. During the wedding season they visit Delhi and NCR to commit theft at wedding venues during ceremonies.
Additional Chief Secretary of Health Department, Amit Mohan Prasad informed that 5,22,866 people have recovered from COVID-19 and discharged till date. The recovery rate is 94.5% and a total of 7900 people have died due to virus till date.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman countered criticism that the government's stimulus package - announced in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic - didn't have enough measures for the middle class. Speaking on Day 6 of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2020, the minister also dismissed allegations that the package included more long-term measures than those which would push demand immediately. Counting various provisions of the economic package, Sitharaman said that the government had given relief to the middle class via different avenues. Watch the full video for more.

With the BJP facing setbacks in the Maharashtra Legislative Council polls, its leader Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said his party failed to gauge the combined strength of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies. He said the party will analyse the poll results and prepare for the next election in a better way. In a setback to the opposition party, MVA candidates have so far won three out of five constituencies- three graduates' and two teachers'. Police detained pro-Kannada activists staging a demonstration at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk in Kalaburagi as part of Karnataka bandh against the formation of Maratha Development Authority (MDA) on December 05. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin held a protest rally in Tamil Nadu's Salem against Centre's farm laws on December 05. While addressing the protest, Stalin questioned Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K. Palaniswami. He said, "We went to Court against the laws. Kerala and Punjab have already approached Court. Wall of a dilapidated church building collapsed due to strong winds in Dhanushkodi near Rameswaram. Strong winds are the effect of Cyclone Burevi, which had weakened to deep depression. Several areas in Tamil Nadu are also waterlogged, leaving normal life in a difficult state.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra while updating on Cyclone Burevi informed that storm is expected to weaken into depression while moving westward across south Tamil Nadu in next 12 hours. "Cyclone Burevi lays over Gulf of Mannar near south Tamil Nadu coast. Wind speed is 50-60 kmph. It'll further weaken into depression while moving westward across south Kerala coast during next 12 hrs," said IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra. He further added, "There has been extremely heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry under its influence. Very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall likely to continue over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today."
