'US only now chose its first woman VP, while India elected woman PM 50 years ago'
Friday, 20 November 2020 Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday paid tributes to former prime minister and her grandmother the late Indira Gandhi and said while the US has for the first time elected a woman Kamala Harris as Vice President, India had chosen Indira Gandhi to be Prime Minister 50 years ago.

Union Minister of Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi slammed Congress over Rahul Gandhi and Priyank Gandhi's massive protest over farm laws. He did it because of Rahul Gandhi's political 'parpanch'. Congress workers on January 15 protested against Centre government as part of the party's nationwide agitation to express solidarity with the ongoing farmers' protest against the three new farm laws. The workers marched towards the Punjab Raj Bhawan for the gherao but were stopped by the police.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, led the protest to show solidarity with the farmers' agitation against the farm laws by gheraoing the Raj Niwas in the capital. They also met Congress party Member of Parliaments who were protesting against the three farm laws at Jantar Mantar. Bhupinder Singh Mann, National President of Bharatiya Kisan Union recused himself from a four-member committee appointed by the Supreme Court on the farm laws. Speaking on the matter, Rahul Gandhi said, "Have you ever heard about the word Maya? Everything is Maya, media-created Maya and this myth will soon end. Just wait and watch what will happen the day this Maya will end." Congress Party held protests across the country demanding a repeal of the farm laws brought by the Central government, against which farmer organisations have been protesting at the various borders of Delhi for 50 days now. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met party MPs, who are protesting against the three farm laws at Jantar Mantar on January 15. While speaking to mediapersons, Rahul said, "The three (farm) laws have been brought to finish the farmers. If we don't stop this now, it will continue to happen in other sectors too. Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not respect the farmers. The farmers will neither deter nor fear."
Indicating Khalistani angle in the farmers' protest against three new farm laws, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on November 28 claimed presence of some "unwanted elements" in the protest that has swept the national capital and surrounding regions. Khattar alleged that these "unwanted elements" in some videos could be heard saying "jab Indira Gandhi ko ye kar sakte hain, to Modi ko kyu nahi kar sakte" (When we could [assassinate] Indira Gandhi, then why not Modi). "We have inputs of some such unwanted elements in crowd. We have reports, will disclose once it's concrete. They raised such slogans. In videos they said 'jab Indira Gandhi ko ye kar sakte hain, to Modi ko kyu nahi kar sakte'," Khattar told media persons in Gurugram. Thousands of farmers, mainly from Punjab, have started 'Delhi Chalo' protest against centre's three farm laws with many of them standing on border areas of the national capital. A protesting group was allowed by Delhi Police on November to settle at the Nirankari Samagam Ground in Burari area.
Madhya Pradesh Police used water cannons to disperse protesting Congress workers in Bhopal who were taking out a march in support of the farmers on January 23 in Bhopal. The march was from Jawahar Chowk to Raj Bhavan.

Andy Harris (R-MD) was stopped from bringing a concealed gun onto the House floor, sources told CNN, the first time a member of Congress has been discovered with a firearm by the metal detectors now set up outside the legislative chamber. CNN’s Sunlen Serfaty reports the decision to require members of Congress to walk through metal detectors has further inflamed tensions on Capitol Hill.
