BSF foils infiltration bid in Samba, BAT attack in Kupwara
Monday, 23 November 2020 Alert BSF troops foiled an infiltration bid and killed a Pakistani intruder from across the International Border (IB) in J&K’s Samba district on Monday. In north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, BSF thwarted an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Machhil sector late Sunday, officials said.
BSF soldiers celebrated Lohri at Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. The 72nd battalion of BSF jawans were seen celebrating and dancing on the occasion. Lohri is celebrated across the nation on January 13. The soldiers celebrated the festival with fervor and congratulated the countrymen. They also assured the people of the nation to celebrate the festival with enthusiasm as they were alert at the borders. Traditionally, Lohri celebrates the onset of the harvest season in Punjab. 72nd battalion of Border Security Force jawans celebrated Lohri at the Poonch camp on January 13. Jawans lit a bonfire and danced around it on folk music. The customary eatables like peanuts, popcorn and other snacks were also present as a part of the celebration. It is known as a festival of farmers in Northern India and is observed a night before Makar Sankranti.
To showcase the talents of the youth and to bring back the lost warmth among people due to the bone chilling winter season, Indian Army's 15 Rashtriya Rifles has organised Village Games Festival 2021 in Kupwara. Village Games Festival was organized for the people of villages of Ramhal, Rajwar and Magam block. The event witnessed large amount of gatherings. Several youngsters showcased their talent in different activities and enthralled the audience. The local visitors and many participating players appreciated the step taken by the Indian Army.
Amid heavy snowfall, Army troops helped a pregnant woman in Kupwara reach hospital by carrying her for about 2 km in knee-deep snow before she could be driven to a hospital. The woman gave birth to a boy at the Karalpura hospital. The woman’s family extended their gratefulness to the Indian Army. The Company Operating Base (COB) of the Indian Army at Karalpura in Kupwara received a distress call from the woman’s husband. The man informed the Army that his wife was undergoing labour pain and has to be evacuated to a hospital immediately. It had been snowing for nearly 24 hours continuously when the call came. Army jawans helped pregnant woman to reach hospital in Kupwara as roads were blocked due to heavy snowfall. Braving extremely difficult conditions, jawans safely carried 'to-be-mother'. Family members thanked Army for their generous support.
BSF detected a tunnel beneath the international border in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua. Officials said that the tunnel was built from across the border to facilitate terrorists' infiltration. BSF troops detected the tunnel in Bobiyaan village during an operation on Wednesday. Senior BSF and police officers rushed to the spot soon after the incident came to light. "Tunnel detected along ib in the Hira Nagar sector is approximately 150-meter long. Proper engineering effort has gone into the construction of this tunnel. This is a deliberate effort of Pakistan to push in terrorists into India," BSF IG, NS Jamwal said. Last year, BSF detected two such tunnels in Samba district on August 28 and November 22 following successful infiltration by two groups of terrorists who were subsequently neutralized in separate encounters along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway while they were en route to Kashmir in trucks.

Border Security Force detected a tunnel along the International border in Kathua's Hiranagar sector. The detected tunnel was approximately 150 meter long. BSF personnel considered it as a deliberate attempt by Pakistan to push in terrorists into India. BSF, IG NS Jamwal said, "The tunnel detected along IB in Hiranagar sector of Kathua is approx 150 meter long, proper engineering effort has gone into construction of this tunnel. This is a deliberate effort of Pak to push in terrorists into India. It seems that it hasn't been used recently."
Ceasefire violation was initiated by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on January 16. Regular shelling has been a major problem for the locals. People living in the Balakot sector urged government to not concentrate on elections instead on the people living here. One of the locals said, "The Central government has given the full emphasis on elections, but elections will not resolve people's problems. People want roads, bunkers, they are disturbed due to the regular shelling activities. The emphasis should not be on elections instead authorities should think about the people living here."
Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane lashed out at Pakistan over its continued support to terrorists. Speaking at the Army Day celebration, the Army Chief said that Indian forces have been giving a stern response to provocations at the border and added that around 300 to 400 terrorists are waiting across the border to infiltrate into India. He also added that forces have thwarted numerous infiltration attempts by terrorists into Kashmir. The Army Chief also added that there has been a 44% rise in ceasefire violations by Pakistan. During the Army Day celebrations on January 15, Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane told that over 200 terrorists near LoC and in counter-terrorism operations in last year. "Around 300-400 terrorists are sitting in training camps near the border to infiltrate into the Indian territory. Number of ceasefire violations went up by 44 per cent last year, which shows the nefarious intentions of Pakistan. Last year, the Army eliminated over 200 terrorists near LoC and in counter-terrorism operations," said General MM Naravane.
