6 states/UTs contributed to 60.72% of 44,489 fresh Covid-19 cases: Health ministry

The Union health ministry on Thursday said 60.72 per cent of the 44,489 fresh Covid-19 cases registered in a span of 24 hours have been contributed by six states and UTs, with Kerala leading the tally followed by Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Received complaint against 'Tandav', action will be taken as per law: Anil Deshmukh

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on January 20 said that a complaint has been received regarding web series 'Tandav'. Action will be taken as per the law, he said. "Central government should bring legislation in regard to OTT (over-the-top) platforms," he said. BJP leader Ram Kadam and other leaders alleged that the web series 'Tandav' has some inappropriate scenes of Hindu gods which are hurting religious sentiments. Recently, the creators of 'Tandav' apologized for unintentionally hurting people's sentiments.

The tenth round of talks between farmer unions and Central government over the three farm laws concluded at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi on January 20. General secretary of All India Kisan Sabha Hannan Mollah, said, "Government said that it is ready to file an affidavit in the court to the effect that it would put the implementation of the laws on hold for one and half a year. They also said that a committee would be formed on MSP and the laws and they would implement the recommendations of the committee. We'll hold a meeting tomorrow and take a decision on the proposal." He also said, "We asked government to withdraw the fake cases registered by NIA against farmers. In response, government said they are looking into the matter and asked us to provide the names of leaders against whom new cases, if any, have been registered." The next round of the meeting will take place on January 22. The farmers are protesting against new farm laws since November 26, 2020 at Delhi borders.

Fifteen migrant labourers from Rajasthan sleeping by the roadside died after a truck ran over them on Jan 18 in Gujarat's Surat district. The incident took place near Kosamba village, around 60 km from Surat. “The truck was on its way to Mandvi from Kim. The driver lost control of the vehicle after it hit sugarcane hanging out of the tractor trolley coming from the opposite direction,” said a police official. Twelve died on the spot while three of the eight injured died in a nearby hospital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that ex-gratia of Rs two lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund would be given to the next of kin of each person killed in the accident and Rs 50,000 would be given to each injured. Union Health Ministry commented on the deaths post the covid-19 vaccination. Additional secretary said that 3 out of 4 deaths were unrelated to vaccination. In total 7.86 lakh healthcare workers have received Covid-19 vaccine jabs till the evening of the fifth day of the nationwide immunisation drive, as per provisional report of the Union Health Ministry on Jan 20. "The cumulative number of healthcare workers vaccinated against Covid-19 has touched 7,868,42 (till 6 pm Wednesday) through 14,119 sessions, as per the provisional report," the ministry said. On the four deaths reported, one each from Uttar Pradesh and Telangana and two from Karnataka, the official said in case of the death from Moradabad in UP, post mortem confirmed cardio-pulmonary disease and is not related to vaccination. “About the death reported from Bellary in Karnataka, post mortem suggested myocardial infarction and it is not related to vaccination. The other death reported in Shivamoga is also a suspected case of myocardial infarction not related to immunization,” Union Health Ministry Manohar Agnani said. Watch the full video for more.

Union Health Ministry on January 20 informed that out of four deaths reported after COVID vaccination jab, three are not related to vaccination while post-mortem is underway for one. Additional Secretary of Union Health Ministry, Manohar Agnani said, "Four deaths have been reported from Uttar Pradesh (1), Karnataka (2) and Telangana (1). In Uttar Pradesh, post-mortem confirms cardiopulmonary disease and not related to vaccination. Post-mortem is suggestive of myocardial infarction in case of Karnataka's Bellary and it is also not related to vaccination. The case of Karnataka's Shivamogga is a suspected case of MI and is also not related to vaccination. While in the case of Telangana's Nirmal, post-mortem is undergoing." He also said, "A total of 7,86,842 beneficiaries have been vaccinated till 6 pm today as per the provisional reports. No case of severe/serious AEFI has been attributed to vaccination till date."
