Isro’s PSLV-C50/CMS-01 mission successful; communication satellite placed in orbit
Thursday, 17 December 2020 CHENNAI: The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) on Thursday marked its second successful mission of the year by launching country’s 42nd communication satellite CMS-01. It is also the second launch this year after the launch of PSLV-C49, which placed all-weather earth imaging satellite EOS-01 and nine other foreign satellites in orbits on November 7.

The Supreme Court directed CBI to probe the role of ex-cops in former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan's arrest in the '2018 ISRO scientist alleged spying case'. He said, "It's a fabricated case. J Rajasekharan Nair helped me in all aspects even when I was jailed in 1994. In his book 'Spies from Space', he has questioned the case."
With the arrest of accused Raj Kumar Saigal, Thakurdas Mondal, and Munna Lal, Crime Branch of Delhi police busted the Kolkata-based gang of cheaters, indulged in the "Rice Puller" scam. Accused persons formed many companies, all based in Kolkata, West Bengal. These alleged companies further made some brokers across India. The task of such brokers was to search potential parties and lure them to purchase their antique precious rare metal "Rice Puller". The accused persons demanded money from innocent people in the name of testing of such radioactive material by ISRO and DRDO claiming to be an expensive process. A Delhi-based businessman was duped by the gang to the tune of approx. Rs 11 lakh. In this regard, police registered a case, and an investigation was taken up. During the course of the investigation, on the basis of scrutiny of CDRs of suspected mobile numbers and tip-off, the police team conducted raids at Kolkata and Faridabad and arrested all three accused. Further investigation of the case is in progress.
Petrol and diesel prices in the national capital stood at Rs 91.53 and Rs 82.06 per litre, respectively on May 10. The petrol prices were increased by 26 paise per litre and diesel by 33 paise in Delhi. Petrol prices witnessed a minor surge across country and differ from state to state depending on the incidence of value-added tax. In Mumbai, the price of petrol and diesel stood at Rs 97.86 and Rs 89.17 per litre respectively. The price of petrol and diesel in Chennai was Rs 93.38 and Rs 86.96 per litre respectively and Rs 91.66 and Rs 84.90 per litre in Kolkata.
Chennai Railway Police raised awareness about Covid-19 among citizens recently with a unique performance. The video of the same is being circulated on social media.
