Railways to announce Rs 440 cr project in Bengal before state polls
Wednesday, 13 January 2021 () Ahead of the upcoming assembly election in West Bengal, the railway ministry is all set to approve approximately Rs 440 crore fourth greenfield coaching terminal project at Dankuni near Kolkata.

BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya reacted on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's statement calling the party "more dangerous than Naxals". He said that BJP doesn't need CM Banerjee's certificate that it is dangerous or not. "People of the country have made Narendra Modi Prime Minister second time so we don't need Mamata Banerjee's certificate,' he said. He added that BJP will only choose those TMC leaders who are not indulged in anti-national activities.
Ranjan Banerjee, senior vice-president of Aditya Birla Group, joined the BJP in Kolkata on January 20. He joined the party in the presence of BJP's national vice president Mukul Roy. Meanwhile, Arindam Bhattacharya, a former Congress MLA who later switched to TMC joined BJP. He joined BJP in the presence of party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya in New Delhi. Speaking to ANI, Ranjan Banerjee said, "I thank BJP for giving me this opportunity to serve the people of the state. We need to bring industries here so that people can get employment." Bengal is going for polls in the mid of 2021.
Days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that she would contest the upcoming state assembly election from Nandigram, now her former aide turned BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has hit back. While Adhikari refused to confirm his candidature from Nandigram, he said that he would guarantee the victory of the candidate the BJP fields in Nandigram. ‘Mamata Banerjee has announced to contest from there, relying on 62,000 votes but I have 2.13 lakh people who chant 'Jai Shri Ram,’ Adhikari said. Meanwhile, in a fresh setback to the Trinamool Congress, Arindam Bhattacharya joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that he wants to join PM Modi’s mission of making an Atmanirbhar Bengal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated Madar-Rewari section in Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) to the nation. The PM also flagged off world's first double-stack long-haul 1.5-km-long container train from New Ateli-New Kishangarh. The New Madar-New Rewari section of the WDFC is 306-km-long. Out of this, 227 Km is situated in Rajasthan and 79 km is situated in Haryana. Under the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), 1875 km of railway lines are being laid from Ludhiana to Sonnagar and Sonnagar to Dankuni. While the work of laying 1506-km-long railway line from Dadri to JNPT is being done under the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).
The New Khurja-New Bhaupur section under dedicated freight corridor (DFC) will soon be opened for the operation of freight trains. Freight trains can run on this line at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. In view of this, under the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, an inspection run was conducted on the 343 kilometer long railway line between New Khurja and New Bhaupur. Political temperature is rising in West Bengal as the 2021 Assembly election approaches. ‘Goli maro’ slogans were heard, this time at a Trinamool rally in Kolkata. Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Purba Bardhaman between workers of the two parties. Some BJP workers were injured in the clashes and have been admitted to the hospital. These clashes come as the verbal duels between leaders from the two parties have escalated in the last month. While BJP’s Dilip Ghosh said that TMC had been reduced to half in 2019 polls and would now be wiped out after 2021 polls. He added that people of the state now want change and stand behind the BJP.
