The Central Government has given permission to Haffkine Institute to produce Bharat Biotech's Covaxin. CM Uddhav Thackeray thanked PM Modi through a tweet by CM office, Maharashtra on April 15, "The Dept of Science and Technology, Government of India, has granted approval to Haffkine Institute to produce Bharat Biotech's Covaxin vaccine on a transfer of technology basis. CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has thanked the Hon'ble PM Shri@narendramodi for approving this request."
A stolen figure of goddess Laxmi Narayan has returned to its home in Nepal. The idol was being worshipped at Patan's Patko Tole till 1984 when the statue went missing and later traced to a museum in Dallas, US. The figure was officially handed over to the Nepal Embassy in US during an official ceremony last month after the Nepali authorities provided evidences proving its origins to the Himalayan nation. "This statue which was kept in museum of Dallas, our mission there held four rounds of meeting and we provided them the evidences which belong to us. We have provided the documents as evidence and it matched, after matching those evidences Government of United States of America agreed to return it back and handed it over to our Embassy there," said Yadav Prasad Koirala, Culture Secretary of Nepal after the figure returned in Kathmandu.
Tens of thousands of devotees gathered in Bhaktapur city in Nepal on Sunday to celebrate the arrival of New Year with chariot festival despite the coronavirus pandemic. Devotees flocked to the Taumadhi Square to take part in the "Biska Jatra" fair , where idol of Lord Bhairab was carried to the chariot and devotees were indulged in a tug of war. Devotees were seen flouting social distancing norms at the festival. The three-storey chariot made of wood in the pagoda style is pushed and pulled around the settlements with the statues of Bhairavnath and Betal as a part of this festival. This festival which has cultural and historical importance is celebrated for nine days and eight nights. Biska Jatra - one of the popular festivals of Kathmandu Valley is celebrated at the start of the new year on the Bikram Sambat calendar. It starts with the ascension of Lord Bhairab onto a chariot built in front of Nyatapola Temple, the tallest temple in Nepal.
Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, the former King of Nepal, visited Uttarakhand's Haridwar to attend the Kumbh Mela. He met many saints and seers and they were seen exchanging garlands. The month-long religious fest is being held under the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic. Two militants belonging to the banned NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) organisation surrendered with arms and ammunition before the police on April 15 in Dharmanagar of North Tripura district. Both the militants wanted in various cases have been identified as Joseph Jamatia and Uttam Kishore Jamatia and deposited three factory made pistols, magazines and ammunition to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) L Darlong in presence of Superintendent of Police (SP) North Tripura district Bhanupada Chakraborty who played an important role in convincing them to come back to normal life. The militants were trained in Bangladesh and were living in Nagaland.
Shantir Ogrosena, multinational military exercise, concluded in Bangladesh on April 12.The armed forces of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka participated in the exercise. Observers from the US, UK, Turkey and Saudi Arabia also participated. The multilateral UN-mandated counterterrorism exercise was held from April 4-12. The Indian Army contingent that participated comprised of 30 personnel. Indian Army chief Gen M M Naravane attended the closing ceremony of the exercise. A 10-day multinational military exercise named 'Shantir Ogrosena' in which troops of four countries including India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka participated, culminated on April 12 in Bangladesh. The exercise also included observers from the US, UK, Turkey and Saudi Arabia and others. The exercise from April 4-12, was organised to pay tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his birth centenary and celebrate the golden jubilee of the liberation of Bangladesh. The aim of the exercise was to strengthen defence ties and enhance interoperability amongst neighbourhood countries to ensure effective peacekeeping operations, the Indian Army said on April 12.

During a virtual summit with President of Seychelles, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that India will stand firmly with Seychelles in its effort for post-COVID economic recovery. British PM Boris Johnson received his first dose of AstraZeneca's Covid vaccine on Friday. The 56-year-old UK PM took to Twitter and shared a video urging the public to do the same. Johnson received the jab at Gassiot House Outpatient Centre in London's St Thomas' Hospital. Last year, Johnson was diagnosed with Covid and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. Johnson had spent a week at St Thomas' Hospital including three days in intensive care. AstraZeneca's jab, developed with Oxford, provides the bulk of Britain's inoculation campaign. A large portion of its supply has also been produced by the Serum Institute of India.
