Bhubaneswar boils in February, temp touches 40.6 C

India Meteorological Department (Bhubaneswar) Director, HR Biswas said that hot weather conditions prevailing in Bhubaneswar and in some districts of Odisha. He said that Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded highest temperature for February 27. "Bhubaneswar's airport area recorded 40.6 degree Celsius which is highest in Odisha and it may be highest in India," he said.

EAM Jaishankar attends International Women's Day celebrations in Delhi

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar attended the International Women's Day celebrations held at the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi on March 08. EAM also addressed the guests during the event. Two desperate drug suppliers arrested by Crime branch

With the arrest of two drug suppliers namely Sonu and Dinesh, the team of Narcotics Cell of Crime Branch, Delhi has busted two supply chains of the contraband heroin clandestinely active in the area of Uttam Nagar and Majnu Ka Tilla, Delhi. 570 grams of heroin worth Rs 60 lakhs were seized from their possession. According to the statement, accused Sonu studied till class second and started selling illicit liquor and gradually started selling heroin for quick money. He has been previously involved in 8 cases. Accused Dinesh was trapped in a bad company and started committing crimes and got involved in two cases of robbery and theft. In due course of time, he started consuming heroin and started selling heroin to feed his addiction. He has been also previously involved in 3 cases. The Crime Branch has seized heroin of 300 grams and 270 grams from both the accused in two separate raids.

JandK's Anantnag to get first multi-level car parking facility soon

The project is being executed by Housing and Urban Development Dept Kashmir under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme. Locals lauded the step taken by Jammu and Kashmir administration as it will ease the traffic conjunctions in the town. 69th Senior National Volleyball Championships kicks off in Bhubaneswar

The '69th Senior National Volleyball (Men and Women) Championships' started at Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium in Bhubaneswar on March 05. Over 1200 volleyball players (both men and women) are participating in the tournament from 28 states and 8 Union Territories. For the first time, players from Union Territory Ladakh also participated in the championships. The Championships are being held under the aegis of the parent body Volleyball Federation of India (VFI). The tournament started on Mar 05 and will end on Mar 11.

Spiritual leader the Dalai Lama received the first shot of the coronavirus vaccine in Dharamshala on Saturday. He received the dose at Zonal Hospital at around 7:10 am. He was kept under observation for about half an hour. Over 150 monks test COVID positive at Himachal Pradesh monastery

154 monks have been tested COVID-19 positive in Gyuto Tantric Monastery in Himachal Pradesh's Sidhbari. A total of 330 monks have been tested so far. The monastery has been declared as 'containment zone'. Kangra CMO Dr GD Gupta said, "Following initial cases on Feb 23rd, 330 monks tested so far for COVID-19 and 154 of them tested positive at Gyuto Tantric Monastery, Sidhbari. One monk in critical condition shifted to Tanda Medical College, others in isolation in the monastery itself. Monks who have been home-isolated, had travelled from Karnataka and Delhi during new year celebrations."

Have written letter to BCCI: Punjab CM on IPL excluding Mohali as match venue

On being asked about IPL excluding Mohali as match venue in the upcoming season, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said, "I have written to them (BCCI) saying if they can have a match in Mumbai, which has had 9,000 cases per day, then what's wrong with Mohali. We will take the necessary precautions." He also spoke three farm laws and said, "Government of India has to take these laws." IPL 14 will start from April 09, 2021 in Chennai between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Women take centre stage at farmers’ protest sites on International Women’s Day

Thousands of women farmers held protest marches and delivered speeches at the Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur protest sites at Delhi's borders on International Women's Day. Noting that women contribute significantly to the country's farming sector, the organisers have laid out elaborate plans to let women farmers manage the stage, arrange food and security and share tales of their struggles on the occasion. Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, have been camping at the Delhi border points for over 100 days, demanding the repeal of farm laws and a legal guarantee on the minimum support price for their crops.
