While addressing a press conference in the national capital on February 28, the Information and Broadcasting (IandB) Minister of India, Prakash Javadekar said, "Many games played on mobile phones and gadgets are violent and addictive. Amit Khare, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Friday said that the ministry has set three broad objectives to regulate Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms and digital media. Amit Khare further said: "We understand the types of media are different amongst each other completely. The print is different from Television, TV is different from films and films are different from web series. We cannot have the same criteria all over but there should be some sort of similarity in the goal post." "What was announced yesterday is a soft touch, self-regulatory mechanism with minimal interference of the government," Khare added. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar during a press briefing on February 25 informed that the government has decided to have a 3-stair mechanism for OTT platforms. "OTT and digital news media will have to disclose their details. We are not mandating registration, we are seeking information," he added. He further informed that OTT platforms should have a self-classification of content in 13+, 16+ and A categories and there has to be a mechanism of parental lock and ensuring compliance that children don't see that.
