BJP sweeps Guj civic polls, AAP makes stunning debut
Wednesday, 24 February 2021 () BJP swept all the six municipal corporations of Gujarat, putting up its best performance in two decades by winning 483 of the total 576 seats and leaving main opposition Congress in tatters. AAP made a stunning debut in the state by winning 27 of the total 120 seats in Surat, virtually stamping out Congress and emerging as the main opposition party.
In a politically befitting reply to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's 'Khela Hobe' challenge to Bharatiya Janata Party, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh while addressing a rally in the Balurghat constituency of West Bengal's Dakshin Dinajpur district, said that the state will witness 'Khela' of development and peace soon if people vote the party to power. Addressing his first rally in the poll-bound state this season, Singh promised that the game will happen. "Mamata didi is saying Bengal mein Khela Hobe? I want to say Khela hobe, nishchay hobe, vikas ka khela hobe, shanti ka khela hobe, ab to Paschim Bengal mein bada khela hobe (I promise that game of development and peace will definitely be played, now. There will be a big game in West Bengal)," Singh told an applauding crowd amidst chants of Jai Shree Ram. West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said that Trinamool Congress' morale has been affected whereas his party will fight and win 200 seats in the upcoming state Assembly election. He said, "Many of the members of Trinamool Congress have left the party and joined BJP," he said.
BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on February 26 urged Election Commission to appoint additional officers with extra forces so that people can vote fearlessly. "I expect from the Election Commission to have a peaceful election. For this, EC should also appoint additional officers with extra forces so that people can vote fearlessly," said Vijayvargiya.
Congress Leader KC Venugopal assured that the party is totally prepared for the upcoming assembly elections. "Congress is totally prepared for elections. We will appeal to the people for change, for good governance. Alliance for Assam has been finalised. In Kerala and West Bengal, the alliance is almost finalized. In Tamil Nadu, talks are underway on alliance," he said.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that BJP and Congress are afraid of the people who voted for the AAP in the local body polls in Gujarat. "I have been listening to statements of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, over the past few days after the results. They are perturbed and a little scared. We have to understand that they are not scared of you or AAP. They are scared of people who voted for you," Kejriwal said addressing the newly elected corporators in Surat. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met newly elected corporators of the party and its volunteers here, after getting a rise in the local body elections in the state. Mohan Delkar, seven-term Lok Sabha member from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, was found dead in a Mumbai hotel on Monday, police said. The body of Delkar (58), Independent MP from Dadra and Nagar Haveli Union Territory, was found at the sea-facing hotel in south Mumbai's Marine Drive area, a police official said. The official said a suicide note in Gujarati was also found along with the body. The cause of death will be known after autopsy, he added. Watch the full video for more details.

Health Ministry Joint Secretary Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari informed that the five highest vaccinating states today are Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Bhandari said that total 51 persons have been hospitalised till date out of which 27 have been discharged, one person is under treatment and 23 people died so far.
People of Gujarat are fed up with BJP and Congress and want to bring their politics to end, said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on February 26. "There are two big parties, people of Gujarat want to send message that they are fed up with both and want to bring their politics to end.
