Tamil Nadu assembly elections: BJP sticks to conversion and cow in fight for Tamil land
Tuesday, 23 March 2021 Fighting for a foothold in the Dravidian heartland, the BJP went the whole hog on its Hindutva identity without compunction by promising “strict anti-conversion law”, “criminalising religious conversion” and ban on cowslaughter in its manifesto released for the TN assembly polls on Monday. The document released by Union minister Nitin Gadkari in Chennai also promised a separate research university to teach ‘Agama’ rituals.
A week after results of the Assam Assembly elections were announced, the Bharatiya Janata Party finally ended the suspense about who will be the new Chief Minister. Himanta Biswa Sarma, a minister in the outgoing government has been selected for the top post. He will be replacing Sarbananda Sonowal who may be accommodated in the Union Cabinet in the future. The announcement was made during a meeting of the BJP legislative party, which was also attended by Union minister and BJP central observer Narendra Tomar. Watch the full video for more.

Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee paid floral tribute to the portrait of the poet, novelist, Rabindranath Tagore at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata on May 09. Hitting out at the Arvind Kejriwal government amid COVID crisis, Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said when BJP and RSS are helping people during oxygen shortage, Delhi government and MLAs are involved in black-marketing. "At a time when people of Delhi are gasping for oxygen, BJP, RSS and other organisations are helping people, Delhi Governments ministers and MLAs are involved in black-marketing and hoarding of medicines and oxygen. Delhi Govt and AAP are responsible for this crisis," said Delhi's BJP president.
Private bus drivers in the state expressed their anger after Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) resumed services with few buses. KSRTC employees along with their families were seen beating utensils (Thalis) to protest against the government. A private bus driver, Afzar said, "The government should accommodate full services of private buses otherwise it would incur loss." Father of a KSRTC bus driver, Vishnu Kanth said, "KRSTC only provides Rs 12,000 which is not enough and parents of a bus driver gets no benefits. We are in a problem and I request Chief Minister, Prime Minister and Nitin Gadkari to intervene. We are Karnataka people not terrorists.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari along with VK Singh, including party's Tamil Nadu chief L Murugan, released BJP's manifesto on March 22 for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, at Le Royal Meridien Chennai. Tamil Nadu will go to Assembly polls in single phase on April 06. Counting of votes will be held on May 02.

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief Vaiko, after releasing his party manifesto for the upcoming state assembly elections, said that his secular progressive front will fight and protect Tamil Nadu from the invasion of 'Hindutva' forces and will win. Chennai Railway Police raised awareness about Covid-19 among citizens recently with a unique performance. The video of the same is being circulated on social media. Chennai Air Customs on May 08 recovered 251 grams of gold worth Rs 12.21 lakh from a passenger who reached airport from Dubai. The gold was found inside the cordless vacuum cleaner. The custom official seized the gold under Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is on.
