Covid-19: India to decide emergency use authorisation of Sputnik V vaccine today
Wednesday, 31 March 2021 On Tuesday, Union health minister Harsh Vardhan had said seven more Covid-19 vaccine candidates are in stages of clinical trials. He made the statement after receiving the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at Delhi Heart and Lung Institute.
Amid India's worst Covid wave yet, a sliver of hope emerged. The Union government revealed districts without new cases in weeks. 32 districts have not seen any new cases in almost a month. The Union health minister revealed the stats during ministers' meet. “For the last 7 days, 180 districts haven't seen new cases. 18 districts haven't seen new cases in the last 14 days. 54 districts haven't seen new cases in the last 21 days and 32 districts have not seen new cases in the last 28 days,” said Harsh Vardhan. Russia on May 06 approved Sputnik Light, the single-dose vaccine against COVID-19. According to the information on Sputnik V's twitter handle, the single-dose vaccine has 79.4% overall efficacy against coronavirus, and is a "reliable pandemic fighter". Sputnik V, which is approved in 64 countries with a total population of over 3.2 billion people, has already started arriving in India for emergency use.
Sputnik V is a minus 18-degrees Celsius storage vaccine, informed Ravi Mathur, Global Logistics' Head, Dr Reddy's Laboratories after the Russian vaccines arrived in India on May 01."Sputnik V is a minus 18-degrees Celsius storage vaccine. We have created a state-of-the-art central warehouse that operates below minus 20-degrees Celsius. These are single-dose ampules, once taken out have to be administered within 30 mins," informed Head of global logistics at Dr. Reddy's lab.
