Why G23 leaders won't contest against Rahul Gandhi for Congress president’s post
Monday, 18 October 2021 The anointing of Rahul Gandhi as the Congress president is almost a foregone conclusion after the schedule for the election of the party’s organisational election was announced in the meeting of its highest decision-making body Congress Working Committee (CWC) on October 16. Though the G23 (group of 23 senior dissenting leaders) has been demanding major reforms, collective decision-making and full-time visible leadership in the party, none of its members would actually contest if “any of the three Nehru-Gandhi family leaders decides to stand for the election of the president’s post”.
Today, the CWC sat down for a vital meeting chaired by interim president Sonia Gandhi; State-run Coal India Ltd has temporarily stopped auctioning coal to non-power customers; Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said India's strategic economic reforms have been welcomed by the Joe Biden administration; India's electricity demand grew 4.9 per cent during the first half of October.
