Election Commission gives mashaal to Uddhav, Shinde time to pick symbol

Election Commission on Monday recognised the two rival factions of Shiv Sena as separate political parties for the upcoming Andheri (East) assembly bypolls and until the symbol dispute between them is resolved. While the faction led by ex-CM Uddhav Thackeray was recognised as ‘Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray)’ and allotted the ‘mashaal’ poll symbol, the Shinde group was identified as ‘Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena’ but awaits allotment of a poll symbol.
