'I'm very impressed by your minister...' UAE minister on Jaishankar
Wednesday, 26 October 2022 Omar Sultan Al Olama, the UAE's minister of state for Artificial Intelligence, on Wednesday lauded external affairs minister S Jaishankar, saying he is impressed by how he positions India's foreign policy at the world stage amid geopolitical tugs of war. Omar Sultan Al Olama, praised Jaishankar during a conference at a Delhi-based think tank. He had virtually joined union ministers from India and several parliamentarians.

On Saturday, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar claimed that the land that opposition leaders say has been occupied by China ‘was in fact occupied in 1962’. His statement was made in a reference to the war when Jawaharlal Nehru was prime minister. He also took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who recently spoke about an official report on loss of territory in Ladakh.

Artificial Intelligence , Now Aiding In the Search for , Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
According to a new paper published in the journal
'Nature Astronomy,' scientists are hoping to apply
machine learning to the search for extraterrestrial life.
SETI, or the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, was
established in 1984 and has been scanning space for radio
signals comprised of non-Earth based "technosignatures.".
VICE reports that a machine-learning
algorithm was applied to telescope
data collected in 2016. .
After analyzing over 480 hours of data from
820 stars, the algorithm identified eight signals
of interest that had previously gone undetected.
Peter Ma, the paper's first author, said that while
artificial intelligence has been applied to SETI's data
in the past, his team's approach is something new.
Previously people have
inserted ML [machine learning]
components into various pipelines
to help with the search. , Peter Ma, Undergraduate student at
the University of Toronto, via VICE .
This work relies entirely on just the neural
network without any traditional algorithms
supporting it and produced results that
traditional algorithms did not pick up, Peter Ma, Undergraduate student at
the University of Toronto, via VICE .
According to Ma, his team's work is twice as fast as
traditional algorithms and allows for an out-of-the-box
approach to the search for alien intelligence.
Traditional algorithms operate on
a given set of instructions designed
by us… thus the algorithm will only
ever discover what we tell it to find, Peter Ma, Undergraduate student at
the University of Toronto, via VICE .
The issue is that the nature of an ET signal
is not completely known… Hence our
proposed approach is to just learn it, Peter Ma, Undergraduate student at

Colorado Looks to , Artificial Intelligence , to Prevent Forest Fires.
Following the most destructive wildfire in Colorado's
history, the state is looking into adopting artificial
intelligence (AI) to detect threats before they occur.
Fox News reports that a proposal by
lawmakers would create a $2 million pilot program
to install cameras in high-risk locations.
An AI program developed by a private company
would analyze data from a 10-mile radius with the
aim of detecting anything that could start a blaze.
Fox News reports that the state's efforts
represent an ongoing push to equip
firefighters with new technology.
The combination of a historic drought
and record-smashing heatwaves has made
wildfires harder to fight in the American West.
Scientists warn that climate change-driven
temperature increases will continue to make
fires more frequent and destructive.
The proposed Colorado program is meant to give
first responders more time to put out a blaze
before it can grow and spread out of control. .

Once these fires get into cresting in
the tree tops, it’s going to take a lot of
resources, a lot of manpower, and
a lot of good luck to knock them down, Don Coram, former Republican Colorado
state senator, via Fox News.
According to David Blankinship, senior technology adviser
for the Western Fire Chiefs Association, similar detection
technology has already proven effective in other states. .
AI-equipped systems have already been
established in California, Nevada and Oregon.
