Cops: No pics, video footage of Putin critic Antov’s autopsy, no order given to record it

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 3 January 2023
In Odisha, there has been criticism of the shoddy investigation into the death of Russian lawmaker Pavel Antov. This has led to the role of the Odisha Police being scrutinized again. On Monday, the crime branch said that Antov's postmortem process was neither video graphed nor photographed. Interestingly, videography and photography were conducted during the autopsy of Pavel's cotraveller Vladimir Bydanov who died of suspected heart attack in the hotel on December 22 two days before Antov's death after a fatal fall from the threestoried hotel's terrace. However, the police admitted that Antov's postmortem was not video graphed. In response, a former cop said that the local police should have insisted doctors to go for videography of the autopsy to ensure transparency. A crime branch official said that videography and photography are mandatory during postmortem in custodial deaths either in police station or judicial custody. However, there is no official instruction so far from either us or from the health department to conduct videography of postmortem of sensitive cases.
