President to address joint sitting of both Parliament houses in existing building: Om Birla
Friday, 20 January 2023 Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday said the President will address the joint sitting of both the houses of Parliament in the existing building, putting to rest speculations that it could be held in the new building.Amid reports that President Droupadi Murmu can address joint session of both houses in new building, Birla in a tweet said the New Parliament Building is still under construction.
The inauguration of India's new parliament in New Delhi on Sunday will see nearly zero representation from the opposition, with 20 parties announcing they will be boycotting the ceremony. The opposition parties have denounced plans by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the new parliament, instead of President Draupadi Murmu, to make a political statement ahead of next year's national election. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now criticised the Opposition and has called their decision unfortunate and irresponsible adding that it weakens democracy.

President Droupadi Murmu has replaced Kiren Rijiju, who was the Minister of Law, with Arjun Ram Meghwal. Officials said that in a major cabinet reshuffle, Arjun Ram Meghwal was appointed union law minister, shifting Kiren Rijiju to the Ministry of Earth Sciences. They added that he will also get the existing portfolios of Rijiju apart from the law ministry Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State assigned the independent charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to his existing portfolios, in place of Kiren Rijiju.
