Jaishankar slams Pompeo for disparaging Sushma remarks
Wednesday, 25 January 2023 Foreign minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday slammed former US secretary of state Mike Pompeo for his remarks on Sushma Swaraj describing her as a "goofball" and a "heartland political hack", saying he deplored the disrespectful colloquialism used for her. In his just-released book, Pompeo has said Swaraj was not an important player on the Indian foreign policy team, and he worked much more closely with NSA Ajit Doval.

On Saturday, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar claimed that the land that opposition leaders say has been occupied by China ‘was in fact occupied in 1962’. His statement was made in a reference to the war when Jawaharlal Nehru was prime minister. He also took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who recently spoke about an official report on loss of territory in Ladakh.
