MHA approves Rs 102 crore for those displaced in Manipur
Thursday, 8 June 2023 The Union home ministry has approved a relief package of nearly Rs 102 crore for the people of Manipur displaced by the ethnic violence that broke out early last month. Home minister Amit Shah had, during his visit to Manipur last week, directed the state government to send a formal request to the Centre for a relief package for people from all communities affected by the violence and forced to relocate to temporary relief camps.
Overnight, three medium-intensity explosions rocked a bridge in Manipur's Kangpokpi district, causing damage. The blasts occurred close to Sapormeina along National Highway-2, linking Imphal to Dimapur in Nagaland. This incident unfolded just two days prior to the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to take place in certain areas of Outer Manipur. According to a security official, the event transpired around 1:15 am near Sapormeina in Kangpokpi district.
