The Week in News: May 19th - May 25thby

It’s time again to cast a brief eye over the past seven days in world news – it’s been a fairly busy one again, to say the very least – meaning that there may even have been a few stories that passed you by in recent days. Don’t worry too much – as it’s our job, as always, to make sure that you are kept up to speed on all of the most interesting events in entertainment, politics and more besides. Here’s our weekly round-up.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Marry
It finally happened – amid all the media coverage, the speculation, the controversy – we have a new royal couple, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. This will mean that Meghan – or should that be the Duchess, now? – will likely start embarking on her first public events and attendances in the weeks to come. Is the new generation of the royal family complete? Perhaps not just yet.

Harvey Weinstein Charged with Rape and Sexual Assault
The first criminal charges have been made against former movie mogul Weinstein in relation to his alleged sexual misconduct with at least two women on this occasion – while he is already facing several civil lawsuits, the NYPD has moved to officially charge and release Weinstein on a bail bond of $1 million pending a criminal trial. How this one plays out will remain very important indeed.

Are Trump and Kim Going to Meet?
Perhaps the most intriguing will-they-won’t-they of recent weeks is that of US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, as it seems that recent talk from Pyongyang has put US noses out of joint – Trump signed off on a letter made public that a meeting between the two figureheads would be cancelled – beyond this, however, it seems that Trump is now, at the time of writing, receptive again to the idea of holding audience with Kim – where will it all end?

What is GDPR?
If you live in the EU, chances are you’ve received stacks of emails this week from services you’re registered to with regards to their privacy policies – this is because new regulations have come in to streamline and make clearer to web users how their data is being used. With hefty fines at stake for some companies if they don’t comply, this is very serious business indeed – and some sources are reporting that GDPR lawsuits are already heading the way of Google and Facebook for various reasons.
