Google Staff Stage Mass Walkouts
In order to demand better rights for women in their respective workplaces, various Google HQs around the world staged walkouts this week – with everything being documented via Twitter. The walkouts come as it was alleged that a high-profile executive received a considerable payout despite leaving the firm after allegations of sexual harassment were levied against him. Requesting changes be made to Google’s various practices, the pressure on the global brand continues.

Long-Term Simpsons Character Could be Retired
When was the last time a cartoon character made so many headlines? Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, a long-standing character in Fox’s long-running animated series The Simpsons, has been at the center of controversy this year. Hari Kondabolu’s documentary The Problem of Apu raised questions regarding the true effects the character had upon the wider ethnic populace – and TV producer Adi Shankar suggested he had heard that Apu would be quietly retired amidst the drama. Showrunner Al Jean has since advised merely that Shankar does not ‘speak for the show’.

Alec Baldwin Arrested
In news just breaking on Friday evening (GMT), TV and movie star Alec Baldwin – a regular fixture on Saturday Night Live – was reportedly arrested for allegedly assaulting someone over a parking dispute. The incident is said to have taken place in New York – and the story remains ongoing at the time of writing.

Facebook Data for Sale – in a Different Way
In a week where it appeared Facebook would be facing fines following their inability to protect users over the Cambridge Analytica scandal earlier this year, the social network was further rocked by hack-related news. It’s thought that hackers behind a breach of up to 120 million different Facebook accounts have been selling private messages via direct profile brokering. Up to 81,000 profiles and their private messages are thought to have been offered up online – with users in Eastern and Central Europe thought to have been the primary targets involved.
