The Republican Party may have managed to make some crucial gains in the Senate after this year’s Midterm Election results, but it’s the news that the Democrats have managed to seize back control of the House of Representatives which appears to be claiming all or most of the headlines. The new position for the party could mean that investigations into the Trump White House – including the President’s financial affairs, and even the possibility of impeachment – become a faint possibility. The President, meanwhile, has warned Democrats against investigating his operation amid a fairly newsworthy press conference on November 7th.

“Now we have a much easier path because the Democrats will come to us with a plan for infrastructure, a plan for health care, a plan for whatever they’re looking at, and we’ll negotiate,” Trump suggested, though not before suggesting that a ‘warlike posture’ would be adopted if the Democratic House chooses to push for an investigation into the President. These words, captured by The Guardian, are just the tip of the iceberg to what has been a very dramatic week at the White House.

“They can play that game, but we can play it better, because we have a thing called the United States Senate and a lot of questionable things were done between leaks of classified information and many other elements that should not have taken place,” The President continued. “I could see it being extremely good for me politically because I think I’m better at that game than they are, actually, but we’ll find out.” Despite headline-friendly talk of a ‘warlike’ stance suggested, Trump also took time to suggest that the results of the Midterms produced a ‘beautiful, bipartisan-type situation’.

The conference comes in a week where Trump removed Attorney General Jeff Sessions from the White House, replacing Matthew Whittaker in his stead. This appointment has concerned both Democrats and Republicans as they fear Whitaker may try to sway the Mueller investigation into alleged Russian collusion. This has even led to some senior Republicans insisting that the Mueller probe must continue as-is, according to The Guardian.

The recent election results could spell big changes for both parties over the next two years, as while the newly-Democratic House could make life difficult for Trump et al leading up to the 2020 General Election, there will very likely be motions made to fight back.
