It’s already time to wrap up November, which means Christmas is only just around the corner – hard to believe! As always, it’s time for us to look back on a week of news – and to digest some of the biggest stories which have come our way in the past seven days. There may be a few you missed out on – and this week, there’s something of an environmental flavor. Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the past week’s most notable stories.
Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush dies at age 94
George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States, a man who helped bring on the end of the Cold War and who led the United States into the first Gulf War, died Friday, a family spokesperson said.

Anchorage Earthquake Hits
Barely breaking news at the time of writing, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake has reportedly hit the US state of Alaska, just 11km north of Anchorage – and as a result, tsunami warnings are being heralded following major aftershocks. CO2 Emissions are Up
Ahead of major meetings surrounding climate change and emissions taking place in the next few weeks, it has emerged that CO2 emissions on the whole are a long way off tailing out – meaning that we may not be on target to cut them off at 2020 as initially predicted. Trump Offers Climate Thoughts
US President Trump this week offered his thoughts on climate change, stating that he believed the US to possess ‘clean’ air and water – and that other parts of the world had ‘dirtier’ airways and reservoirs. In light of news regarding emissions, his statements perhaps weren’t met with warm responses from environmentally-conscious campaigners.

Aquaman Wows at Early Screenings
Big, daft, and well aware of the fact – that’s the message coming through from early critic screenings of DC’s next big movie, Aquaman. With the comics brand having struggled in recent times to go toe-to-toe with Disney and Marvel in recent years, it’s very positive to hear that – while supposedly delightfully bonkers – the next instalment in the Justice League line could be set to sit well with moviegoers.

Stephen Hillenburg Passes Away
The animation world lost a giant this week, as Spongebob Squarepants creator Stephen Hillenburg passed away after battling ALS. The director and animator was 57, leaving behind an incredible legacy as the creator of one of Nickelodeon’s most prolific and long-running series.
