The Week in News: December 8th - December 14thby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

It’s been another rollercoaster of a week as far as global news and politics is concerned, meaning that even in its dying days, 2018 is continuing to shock and surprise. If you’ve been unable to take stock of the biggest stories to have emerged in the past seven days, we are here with another digest of some of the most interesting moments to have emerged from the mass media.

Michael Cohen Jailed for Three Years
In a blow for confidence in Donald Trump’s remaining tenure as US President, the Commander in Chief’s former lawyer was sentenced to three years in jail this week after he was found guilty on a number of charges pertaining to the Trump campaign. Cohen had supplied a number of key facts to authorities in order to reduce his jail time, and with the attorney being the first big name to topple amid the ongoing Mueller inquiry into alleged Russian collusion, some are speculating as to whether or not this will truly be the beginning of the end for Trump’s time in the White House.

Theresa May’s Mad Week
On the other side of the Atlantic, UK Prime Minister Theresa May postponed a meaningful vote on her Brexit deal – a deal which looked doomed to fail once it came under MPs’ scrutiny – which led to many MPs from her own party launching a vote of no confidence in her leadership. May survived with a majority of 200 MPs, which means she will remain in power for at least another 12 months – but with the European Union refusing to budge on further concessions with regard to her deal negotiation, things aren’t exactly going swimmingly in the British isles right now.

Aquaman: A Positive Hit?
Surprising many, DC’s latest movie offering, the Jason Momoa vehicle Aquaman, appears to be doing very well indeed with critics. Sitting at over 70% approval on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing, the consensus is that the film is ‘entertainingly ludicrous’ – and that it is immensely visually appealing, while being knowingly gloriously over the top. How will One News Page grade the movie? Find out soon?
