State Department Spent $50K On Nikki Haley's Apartment Curtains: Report
Questions surround U.N.
Ambassador Nikki Haley after a report found that curtains installed in her official residence last year cost more than $50,000.
????The New York Times claims the curtains themselves were found to have cost $29,900, with a motorized opener for the curtains additionally costing $22,801.
????The purchase was made during a time when the State Department was facing hiring freezes and budget cuts, and the purchase was approved under the Obama administration.
????The Times also found that the Trump administration had no input on the purchase decision, with a former White House official under the Obama administration telling the paper, “How can you, on the one hand, tell diplomats that basic needs cannot be met and, on the other hand, spend more than $50,000 on a customized curtain system for the ambassador to the U.N.?”????However Patrick Kennedy, the former top management official at the State Department during the Obama administration, was quick to defend the purchase, claiming the curtains will be used by future officials and telling the Times that all Haley has is quote, ????“a part-time maid, and the ability to open and close the curtains quickly is important,”??????????
