Doctors typically use the drug "rifampin" to treat patients with tuberculosis (TB), but frequently the drug doesn't reach where its target and many doctors were not aware of this.

According to UPI, researchers may have found a new way to track the drug and monitor its effectiveness.

Scientists at Johns Hopkins University were able to see through PET scans exactly how little of the drug makes it to TB infected lesions in the brain.

Sanjay Jain, a professor of pediatrics, radiology and international health at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, said in a news release, "We used to think we could just give a drug and patients should get better, now, we have tools to measure the nuances that make a difference".
