AP Report: U.S. Approved Thousands Of Child Bride Requests Over Past Decade
The State Department has been reportedly allowing thousands of men to bring their child and adolescent brides into the United States.
??????The Associated Press obtained government data that shows thousands of requests to bring in these young brides were approved over the last 10 years - with one case involving a 49 year old man who applied for admission for a 15-year-old girl.??????Now AP says that all of the approvals are legal because there are no minimum age requirements and when weighing on petitions the US Citizenship and Immigration services looks at whether the marriage is legal in the immigrant’s home country - not if it’s legal in the US.??????However most states do allow children to get married with some restrictions and marriage between adults and minors is not uncommon.??????In 2017, the AP reports there were around 5,000 cases of adults petitioning on behalf of minors and and 3,000 cases of minors trying to bring in their older spouses or fiances that were approved.??????The Hill reports that most of the requests came from Mexico, Pakistan, Jordan, the Dominican Republic and Yemen.??????Some lawmakers on Capitol Hill believe that these numbers indicate there is a loophole that needs to be closed.??
