According to Reuters, an 18-year-old Saudi woman who fled her family because she feared for her life has left Thailand and is en route to Canada.

Canadian officials haven't confirmed that she's been granted asylum.

Her situation gained international attention after she barricaded herself in a Bangkok airport hotel room to resist being sent home to her family, who she claims abuse her on a regular basis and have threatened to kill her.

Her family denies any abuse.

Thailand's immigration chief said, "It was her wish to go to Canada."
