Canadian Parliament: Netflix Should Pay Townspeople Over Real Train Crash Footage in 'Bird Box'

Canada's Parliament has passed a motion against Netflix saying the company should compensate the people of a Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, ??After the film Bird Box featured actual footage of a fatal 2013 train crash in the town.??The movie used footage of the Lac-Mégantic train disaster, which killed 47 people.??Several homes and businesses were also destroyed by the crude oil that spilled out from the freight train during the crash, Fox News reports.

??It’s not mandatory for Netflix to provide compensation but is a serious reprimand, according to the Hollywood Reporter.??Netflix issued a statement apologizing for the mistake but will not remove the footage.??Going on to say their footage is through a stock image vendor Pond5.??Pond5 also issued an apology saying it will review the source material in order to prevent such events like this from happening.

??Canadian legislator Pierre Nantel, who introduced the motion refuses to accept that Netflix will not remove the footage, telling THR:??"For people in Lac-Megantic, they saw images of their own downtown burning, and could imagine their own family members in it." ??Netflix refused to comment to the site but the company’s Public Policy Director Corie Wright did say Netflix ??"understands that many feel frustration and sadness at seeing images of this tragic event." Going on to say but cannot edit or change the "finished content."????????
