Five people have now been detained in the Dominican Republic in connection with the shooting of former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz.
The plot - authorities said - was more complex than originally thought and involved two men on a motorcycle working with two other groups of people in cars.
The gun used in the shooting has also been recovered by police.
Another person linked to the plot nicknamed "The Surgeon" still remained at large.
Ortiz is recovering at Massachusetts General Hospital after being flown there on a medical air ambulance chartered by the Red Sox.
He reportedly took a few steps in his hospital room on Tuesday after undergoing a second surgery.
The baseball legend was first operated on in a hospital in his native Dominican Republic where doctors removed parts of his intestine, colon and gallbladder.
Known as "Big Papi," Ortiz is still a hero in Boston for his role in three World Series championships.
He retired from Major League Baseball in 2016 after 14 seasons with the Red Sox as the team's designated hitter and first baseman.
