Morgan calls for reaction after shock Sri Lanka defeat

SHOWS: LEEDS, ENGLAND, UK (JUNE 21, 2019) (ICC - NO RESALES) 1.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) EOIN MORGAN, ENGLAND CAPTAIN SAYING: "Yes we are going to lose games in the group stages.

We didn't deserve to win today's game.

The other four times, can't account for all of them but certainly different circumstances." 2.

WHITE FLASH 3.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) EOIN MORGAN, ENGLAND CAPTAIN ON WHETHER BELIEF IS STILL THERE SAYING: "There's no reason why it shouldn't be.

We are going to play competitive games, again we are not going to win every game in this World Cup.

We still need to go back to the process that has taken us to being a strong side in the world." 4.

WHITE FLASH 5.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) EOIN MORGAN, ENGLAND CAPTAIN ON WHETHER CONFIDENCE IS LOW SAYING: "No I don't think it does, I think when we get beaten we tend to come back quite strong.

We tend to resort to being aggressive smart, positive cricket so let's hope that's the case on Tuesday." 6.

WHITE FLASH 7.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) DIMUTH KARUNARATNE, SRI LANKA CAPTAIN SAYING: "We are not thinking about every game, we just want to go one by one.

The next game is against South Africa, we want to play and win that match.

Thta's our main focus so after that if we can win then we go for the next one.

That is what we are planning to go one by one." STORY: England forgot the basics of a run chase, captain Eoin Morgan said after his team's shock defeat by Sri Lanka in a low-scoring World Cup thriller on Friday.

Three days after posting the tournament's highest score of 397-6 against Afghanistan, Morgan's men imploded chasing 233 for victory against another Asian side in a major upset that breathed fresh life into the tournament.

Old warhorse Lasith Malinga led Sri Lanka's bowling effort with 4-43 to upstage England despite Ben Stokes' unbeaten 82.

England face tough tests in their next three matches when they take on holders Australia next week before facing India and New Zealand, the only two unbeaten sides in the tournament.

England have not beaten any of them in the World Cup since 1992 but Morgan has faith in his team's ability to bounce back.
