Michael Kors hopes to spark optimism with his collection

The New York native heads to Brooklyn to show his new spring 2020 collection.

Rough Cut (no reporter narration).

Designer Michael Kors traveled to Brooklyn to showcase his new spring 2020 collection on the last day of New York Fashion Week on Wednesday (September 11).

Kors decided to host the show in the borough after learning about his great-grandmother's trek from Ellis Island to Brooklyn.

The New York native centered the line around American optimism and hoped people would leave remembering we all can do amazing things.

"I think right now there is a lot of negativity everywhere.

World War II, listen, women rolled up their sleeves and got the job done here in the States.

So, there's definitely a bit of the 40s, thinking about the people who were renegades," he explained.

Seventy-four looks were sent down the runway, which Kors said blends prepster and punk.

"It's romantic and at the same time it's powerful," said Kors.

(Production: Andrew Hofstetter / Alicia Powell) "Definitely, also even on some of the softer things, on the soft sell dresses, again that whittled waist, a little bit more strength in the shoulder.

And you know what, there's not a strapless, halter, naked garment in the entire collection.

I cannot look at another person walking around basically nude, it's time to cover up." New York Fashion Week ended after five days and nights of shows.
