Model Cara Delevingne gets her face in space

Model and actress Cara Delevingne on Wednesday shared what she said was the first "SpaceSelfie" - a photo taken on earth but beamed up to the stratosphere for a spectacular backdrop.

Ryan Brooks reports.

Cara Delevingne wants to go where no supermodel has gone before.

And on Wednesday (October 23) she got a little closer.

Her selfie was beamed up to the stratosphere - part of a new campaign by Samsung to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Delevingne says the experience was almost a dream come true.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MODEL AND ACTRESS, CARA DELEVINGNE, SAYING "A hundred percent.

I would love to go to space.

Please can I go to space Samsung, please?

I would love that.

That's what I kind of thought it was originally.

Still.

Either way.

This is the first step, I feel." The "Carnival Row" and "Suicide Squad" star says there are some limits to her space ambitions, however.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MODEL AND ACTRESS, CARA DELEVINGNE, SAYING "I don't want to go on a long trip.

I don't want to spend the rest of my life up in space.

But I would like to go on like a little holiday with my girlfriend and my dog to the moon.

It would be great.

Bring back some cheese.

I wish the moon was made out of cheese." Samsung customers keen to join the campaign can send in their own photos.

The company will chose some at random.

And with the help of a high-altitude balloon and a Galaxy S10 put their face in space.

Delevingne is no stranger to selfies, with nearly 44 million followers on Instagram.

But lately, she said, she's started to cut back on social media.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MODEL AND ACTRESS, CARA DELEVINGNE, SAYING: "Like, it should be something you enjoy and you have fun and you check on your friends.

It shouldn't be something you kind of go through and it becomes this weapon against yourself." Samsung will run the Space Selfies campaign through the end of October.
