ClassPass launched in 2013 as a way to help gyms and studios fill empty slots in classes.

After raising $285 million in new funding, the fitness startup is now valued at over $1 billion, making it a โ€œunicorn.โ€.

CEO Fritz Lanman told CNN Business that there are no plans to go public anytime soon and that โ€œthe goal is to stay independent.โ€.

The model has moved from an unlimited plan to a tiered membership and is currently run on a credit-based system.

The company now has more than 30,000 boutique studio, gym and wellness partners in 28 countries
