New Survey Shows 46 Percent of Americans Are ‘Unsure’ If Vaccines Cause Autism

New Survey Shows 46 Percent of Americans Are ‘Unsure’ If Vaccines Cause Autism Gallup recently conducted a vaccination-centered survey of over 1,000 adults in all 50 states of the U.S. They found that the amount of Americans in support of vaccination is 84 percent, a 10 percent decrease from 2001.

46 percent of those surveyed said they were “unsure” whether autism was caused by vaccinations.

An alarming 10 percent said they do believe the debunked myth that vaccines cause autism.

On the other hand, 45 percent of respondents said vaccines don’t cause autism, which is a four percent increase from 2015’s 41 percent.

Although a majority of Americans are in support of vaccinations, its effectiveness depends on herd immunity.

In the case of measles, around 92 to 95 percent of the population must be vaccinated in ordered to prevent the pathogen from transmitting.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, measles cases in the U.S. surged to a 25-year high in 2019.

88 percent of those cases originated in close-knit communities with low vaccination rates.
