Dramatic footage released by Turkish gendarmerie showed the rescue of a 35-year-old woman and her infant daughter in the Mustafa Pasa district of Elazig on Saturday, after spending 24 hours in a collapsed building following an earthquake in eastern Turkey on Friday night.

Adam Reed reports.

This was the dramatic moment when a 35-year old woman and her daughter, believed to have been stuck for 24 hours under a collapsed building following a deadly earthquake in Turkey were pulled alive from the rubble.

Rescuers, who heard the woman's screams, took several hours to reach the survivors in sub zero temperatures, state media said.

The woman's husband was among the 35 casualties in Elazig province, with a further four fatalities in neighbouring Malatya.

More than 1,600 others were hurt, including 86 still being treated in hospitals, though none were in serious condition, the government said.
