A baby monkey became in a net used to protect a TV antenna dish on the roof of a house in east India on January 30.

The incident took place in Jagatsinghpur, Odisha.

The mother monkey and a troop of 12 other monkeys tried to free the baby but failed to disentangle the netting.

However, they stood guard in the area and tried to attack anyone who tried to get close.

A group of local men managed to chase away the monkeys and cut the net to free the baby monkey.

As soon as the baby was left on the ground, its mother, keeping an anxious watch from a coconut tree, came rushing down.

She ran to her baby, picked it up and quickly disappeared into the trees.

Shakti Santosh Ray, who filmed the union of mother and baby monkey, said: "It was very touching to see the mother monkey taking her baby back.

It was a treat to watch."
