Truck trying to escape the police topples over on sharp bend in Thailand

A truck toppled over after trying to take a sharp bend while being chased by police.

The truck carrying construction debris sparked panic after it sped through a police checkpoint in Bangkok, Thailand last Monday (Feb 10) afternoon.

Officers asked the driver to stop but he drove away, sparking a chase with several motorcycle outriders.

As the truck drove down a bridge, the driver tried to navigate a sharp bend to the left.

However, the truck's suspension could not handle the cornering and it toppled over on its side.

Officers surrounded the vehicle and dragged the driver out.

They said that the driver, Duen Maratcha, 37, was arrested at the scene after confessing he had recently taken two amphetamine pills to ''stay awake'' on the roads.

Police also found opium left in the truck and he was taken into custody.

Passing motorist Nattapol Phruekngern said the truck tipped over after being chased for around three miles.

Nattapol said he followed the pursuit and filmed it because he wanted to help the officers catch the driver.

He said: "I followed them because I thought I could assist the police with arresting the suspicious driver.

It was hard to believe that he tried to run away from the police."
