Pompeo: US will sign agreement with Taliban 'if and only if' there's reduction in violence

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the U.S. is considering signing an agreement with the Taliban.

He said they would only sign if the week-long reduction in violence is successful.

According to CNN, the agreement would reduce the number of U.S. troops serving in the Middle East.

The plan would reduce the number of troops from around 13,000 to 8,600 over the course of 135 days.

Pompeo said it might not be perfect but β€œthe reduction in violence is working.”
