Plurality of culture most important in India: CAA discussed in Geneva

A panel made up of European and Indian parliamentarians along with religious leaders held a discussion over the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the situation of Muslims in India on the side-lines of the Human Rights Council in the United Nations, Geneva.

Journalist Atika Farooqui said CAA “is not to take away anyone’s citizenship”.

She said that CAA has no provision to take away the citizenship of current citizens of India by any means and said that “We, Indians, are just curious and hardworking people with Muslim, Christian, Sikh and Hindu sounding names”.
