A Mississippi native who has made his mark in country music gets a special honor from the Yocana area council of the boy scouts of america.

A mississippi native who has made his mark in country music gets a special honor from the yocana area council of the boy scouts of america.

Marty stuart was named this year's "distinguished citizen" for the yocana area council.

Stuart accepted the award at a dinner and reception in tupelo.

The award is given to someone who exemplifies the ideas and values of scouting.

Stuart was chosen for his support of numerous charities and contributions to the magnolia state.

He said the award is a big honor.

"i told my mother that cub scout suit would pay off someday, i still have my cub scout uniform, boy scouts, is a great american tradition, so many notable have been scouts and i'm honored to be among those people, in these days and times when everything is changing, everything is evolving, away from so many things we've always known, it's good to be able to reach back and touch something that's absolutely solid and steady, as the scouts."

Stuart is raising money for the "marty stuart congress of country music."

The museum will be located in philadelphia mississippi and will celebrate the history and heritage of country music.
