On the Fourth of July, Kanye West announced he's running for president in 2020. Business Insider says West has enjoyed a friendship with President Trump. They complimented each other in the press until Trump ran for President. West didn't vote in 2016 - but says if he voted it would have been for Trump. In April 2018, West sent out a series of tweets expressing admiration for Trump. West called Trump his "brother" and they both have "dragon energy.
Presidential nominee Joe Biden has opened up a 15-point lead over President Donald Trump. The new data is according to a Quinnipiac University national poll that also spells out bad news for the President. According to CNN, the poll shows 52% of registered voters report they'll support Biden in the general election. Only 37% of registered voters reported they would be voting for Trump. The poll also finds growing disapproval of President Trump's job performance regarding the economy.
U.S. President Donald Trump and his daughter and adviser Ivanka are rallying support for Goya Foods on Twitter, amid continued calls on social media to boycott the food company over its CEO's effusive praise for Trump. Gavino Garay reports.
On Tuesday, freshman congressman Steve Watkins, from Kansas, was charged with three felonies. Newser reports that Watkins listed a UPS postal box as his residence on a state voter registration form. The charges came three weeks before the state's Aug. 4 primary election. Fellow Republicans are pushing to oust him from the eastern Kansas seat he barely won in 2018. According to Newser Watkins has supported President Trump. Watkins said the charges against him were "bogus."
Violence in New York City has increased tenfold over the last 45 days. The Daily News reports that murders in the city have skyrockets over 200%. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is dismissing the violence as a natural reaction to unemployment because of the coronavirus. AOC says that "rent struggles" are to blame for the city’s recent crime wave. New York State governor Andrew Cuomo crushed AOC's theory, calling her suggestion “factually impossible.
A new solar material that could clean drinking water has been developed. Researchers at New York's University of Rochester, with funding from the U.S. Army, have developed a new aluminium panel that more efficiently concentrates solar energy to evaporate and purify contaminated water. Experiments by the lab show that the method reduce the presence of all common contaminants such as detergent, dyes, urine, heavy metals and glycerin, to safe levels for drinking.
