Why People Are Staying Away From The Hospital Amidst Coronavirus Pandemic

San Francisco Bay Area doctor Edward Abratowski believes that he and his medical colleagues all underestimated the coronavirus.

Business Insider reports Abratowski noted that his hospital is seeing a precipitous drop in patients.

Besides a moratorium on elective surgeries, people are staying away, fearing that a hospital is "not the best place to be" right now.

On a very busy night, his ward may see sixteen patients.

Now, Abratowski says the average is around six.

Abratowski believes the Trump administration botched its coronavirus response and "should have shut down the entire country right away." He believes social distancing is "far and away the most important protection" from the coronavirus.

Abratowski praised California Gov.

Gavin Newsom for prioritizing social distancing early on in the outbreak.
