Indonesian health workers conduct 'rapid mass tests' on market traders

A number of health workers conducted a rapid test on traders in the traditional market in Makassar City, South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia on Tuesday, May 12.

The traders were asked to do a quick check at the post in front of the traditional market to find out their anti-body reaction to COVID-19.

For traders who cannot come to the post, the health workers immediately go to the merchant's stall to do a rapid test.

Director of PD Pasar Makassar Raya, Basdir, said that this rapid test activity targeted all traditional markets in Makassar.

There are 18 wholesale markets and are targeted to be completed in four days.

The first day was Pabaengbaeng Market, East Pabaengbaeng, Parangtambung Market and Sambung Jawa Market.

For the Pabaengbaeng and East Pababaengbaen Markets, there are 300 traders targeted, in the Parang Tarang Market as many as 120, and the Sambung Jawa Market as many as 100 more.

"It is hoped that with this rapid test we can find out early on the spread of Corona so that there is anticipation that can be done going forward.

It is also hoped that traders will not be afraid of rapid tests because this is for the common good," Basdir said.
