57 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Nepal, bringing total to 191

Nepal on Tuesday confirmed 57 new cases of COVID-19, highest single-day rise taking the number of positive cases 191, Health and Population Ministry confirmed.

Swab samples tested at National Public Health Laboratory has confirmed 57 new cases in the Himalayan nation, more than double the cases registered a day earlier.

On Monday, a total of 24 cases were registered.

Among the new registered cases, 39 are from Parsa, 9 from Rupandehi, 8 from Kapilvastu and One from Bara District.

Buffered in between India and China, the Himalayan Nation- Nepal till date has recorded 33 successful recoveries with zero mortality.

Nepal earlier on February had confirmed its first case of SARS-CoV-2 and second case on March after which it has been placed under nationwide lockdown since 24 March extended for 4 times.

It would prove best for the people of Mithilanchal to ferry and also would increase comfort of people," Ram Lakhan Tapar from Janakpur who came to see the arriving train told ANI.Operated using diesel and electricity, each set has 5 bogies (coaches). Out of them one is AC coach while three are General bogies. One of the set's engines has been designed with the capacity to accommodate passengers. Combining the 5 bogies, it bears the capacity of 1300 passengers at a time. The 34 kilometer broad-gauge railway track has been built with Indian assistance. It would revive the earlier Janakpur-Jaynagar railways connection between India and Nepal.The Kurtha-Jaynagar railway track measuring 35 kilometres in length section was constructed with the technical and financial support of India. The railway track is likely to come into operation after Dashain and Tihar festivals.

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research on September 20 informed that Drugs Controller General of India has approved CSIR's paper-based testing kit called Feluda for COVID-19. CSIR, Director General S Mande said, "Our Delhi CSIR lab's been working on studying CRISPR-Cas immunity. They have experience of working in this particular area before COVID-19 and could repurpose the thing for COVID and developed a paper-based testing kit called Feluda and got formal approval from DCGA. Mande further explained the functioning of the paper based test. "It's different as RTPCR detects RNA and amplifies it using a polymerase chain reaction that is costly. This paper-based test also detects RNA but by a CRISPR guided system. The paper lights up if there is any virus RNA to show a sample is positive, in 45 minutes," he added.
