PLAYER WEARING A MASK USING SANITIZING GEL STORY: Spanish clubs Sevilla FC, Real Sociedad, Levante UD, and D Alaves were among La Liga sides back on the training pitch on Tuesday (May 12) as they prepare for a return to play next month.

The Spanish season has been on hold since March and matches are due to re-start in June without spectators.

Training sessions have been under strict guidelines with players generally spaced over several pitches, sometimes in multiple time blocks, as they do individual drills so as to limit contact and the possibility of spreading the novel coronavirus which brought the season to a standstill.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has said he hopes Spanish soccer will resume on June 12 after being halted for more than three months due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

All clubs in Spain's top two divisions began testing players for the virus last week and many have now started individual training, the second step of the league's four-phase protocol for returning to action.
