'We will take all the necessary decisions at the right time' - IOC President Bach

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said the IOC would "take all the necessary decisions at the right time" about the staging of the delayed Tokyo Olympic Games in July 2021.

Lauren Anthony reports.

The International Olympic Committee said on Saturday (May 16) it would make decisions about the staging of the delayed Tokyo Olympic Games "at the right time".

IOC President Thomas Bach said that with over a year still to go before the scheduled opening on July 23 2021 it would be hard to give a "reliable answer" on how the world might look then.

"You know, we are one year and two months away from this Games, and then we will take all the necessary decisions at the right time, relying on the advice of the World Health Organization, discussing it in our joint task force, but I think nobody at this moment in time can really give you a reliable answer how the world will look like in July 2021." The WHO was instrumental in sharing technical advice with the IOC during discussions that led to the postponement of the Games back in March.

The two bodies also signed an agreement on Saturday.

Which advocates healthy lifestyles, including physical activity, sport and active recreation, as a tool for health across the globe.
