The world famous Rajarani Music Festival took off on a high note in Odisha's Bhubaneswar on January 18. The three-day event is being held on 11th century Rajarani Temple's premises. The audience was enthralled after listening to the euphonious phrases. The festival celebrates the richness of Indian classical music. The annual event features artistes from across the country. This international music festival is being organised since 2003 by the state tourism department.
An 11-ft long python was rescued by the Forest Department in Odisha's Brahmapur. It was found inside a JCB machine. The python was later released in nearby jungle.
Chilika Lake has become a favourite destination not only for migratory birds but also for rare Irrawaddy Dolphins. According to Chilika Development Authority (CDA), the lake records its highest ever count with 11.42 lakh migratory birds. During the monitoring of flora and fauna of Chilika Lake on January 15, 2021, dolphin population in Chilika Lake recorded with 156 along with five species of seagrass were reported. The annual bird count of Asia's largest brackish water lagoon was undertaken on January 14. Chilika now has 22 per cent of India's seagrass area. "State Government is focusing on eco-tourism in the state. At present there are around 47 such sites in the state along with Chilika Lake, we are focusing to add more facilities at these sites," Hari Shankar Upadhyay, Principal Chief Conservation of Forests (Wildlife), Odisha said.
DRDO successfully test-fired its Advanced Tower Artillery Gun System Howitzer. It tracked the target accurately and successfully at Odisha’s Balasore firing range. It has the capability to strike targets at the longest range of 48 kilometers. DRDO developed it with the private sector industry to promote Aatmanirbhar Bharat. It has been produced by two firms Bharat Forge & Tata Advanced Systems Limited. The ATAGS Howitzer has already fired over 2,000 rounds during the field trials in Sikkim and Pokhran. India on December 19 successfully test-fired it's Advanced Tower Artillery Gun System Howitzer which tracked the target accurately and successfully at Balasore firing range in Odisha. In a bid to promote Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed the gun in partnership with private sector industry. DRDO assured 200 Indian howitzers to be ready for induction in 18 months.
Serum Institute of India's vaccine consignment arrived at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on January 21. The consignment is containing 10 lakh dosages which will be dispatched to Kathmandu and 20 lakh dosages to Dhaka.
India on Wednesday sent coronavirus vaccines to Bhutan and Maldives. India is sending doses of the Covishield vaccine. Trucks with Covishield left from Pune’s Serum Institute of India for Bhutan. The move is in keeping with India’s “neighborhood first” policy. Consignments were airlifted and handed over to officials in Maldives and Bhutan. India will also be dispatching vaccines to Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, and Seychelles. This comes days after India launched the Covid-19 vaccination drive on January 16. Delhi continued to shiver as cold conditions prevailed in the city on January 20. Intense cold waves tightened its grip over the northern region. Dense fog shrouded the national capital, leading to reduced visibility. Severe winters have affected the daily lives of people. India Meteorological Department reported temperature at Palam and Safdarjung was recorded as 9.4 degrees Celsius and 9.8 degrees Celsius respectively. Lowest visibility was reported over Palam during the morning hours. Delhi recorded temperature of 9.8 degrees Celsius in the morning of January 20.
